A 2 person tent is ideal for two people to share and these are also some of the cheapest tents on the market. This is what makes them great for festivals. A 2 person tent and a festival, when put together, can go towards making your festival stay a fantastic one…but there are a few things you should be aware of.
With the thousands of people walking around, trying to find their own tent, the chances are high that someone could trip and fall onto your tent. Thousands of tents get ruined over the course of the festival period. Some can be salvaged and used again, and some are only suitable for the bin. Most festival goers understand this and expect this, and so hunt for the cheapest 2 person tent they can find. If it gets ruined then they're not going to be loosing much.
If, however, you like your tent and would prefer it not to get damaged if possible, try looking for a safe pitching area. These areas steer clear from the main traffic zone, i.e. in the middle of everything. Remember, the closer you are to stage area, the busier it will be. You may like being there as it gives you a shorter walk to the heart of everything, but everyone will have the same thoughts as you and pitch there. This also means that everyone else will have to walk passed your tent to get to theirs behind you. That increases the chances of damage.
The safer places to pitch are on the outskirts of the field. You may have further to walk, but not as many people will be traipsing passed. If possible, try pitching up against a fence. There will be no need for anyone to walk around you, then.
Also, if you are camping on a hill, try finding a place at the top. If it rains, the water will follow gravity and travel to the bottom of the hill. The tents pitched at the bottom will inevitably become flooded and the whole area will become a mud bath. Obviously, if you like that kind of thing, pitch there and enjoy, but for those who don't, pitch at the top.
A lot of people, if their tent gets ruined, choose to leave it behind. If your tent is salvageable, then this isn't too much of a problem as these are often collected afterwards and donated to charity. If, however, the tent is completely beyond repair, then by leaving it you are just creating work for someone else to clear up. It also has repercussions for the environment. The best thing you could do is to pack your tent up as best you can and take it back home where you can dispose of it yourself.
A festival environment may be hazardous for your 2 person tent, but if you think about the best places to pitch, and steer clear of the main traffic area, your 2 person tent can be saved and used again on another day.
